In a world of experts, admitting ignorance is arrogant?

Isn’t life as an atheist crazy? Many of us grow up claiming to know like everyone else how the world works. Agreeing with shopkeepers and taxi drivers, fishermen and sports stars on our fate after death, despite working in a profession that is clearly wasted on such knowledge. When we admit to being non-religious and not knowing the world as well as we previously assume, we are looked at with confusion.

‘Wait, so you don’t know where the universe came from?’ As if being an expert is a somewhat modest approach.

It’s pretty annoying to admit I am clueless about our origins and being treated as if I have placed myself on some kind of pedestal as a result. If anything, I have simply stepped down from it.
