Asking the name of a stranger is understandable. Asking where they live makes sense, too. What they do for a living? Why do we ask that?
It’s the three questions guaranteed to be asked on a quiz show. A persons job might be a more suitable question if everyone worked the jobs they dreamed of as children. If everyone was in a dream job there would be a lot less demand for quiz shows. Sharon wouldn’t have to recite the lyrics of a Beatles song on a mechanical bull to win the car she needs to take her kids to school.
What do you aspire to be? What interests you? These are surely more fascinating. Then again, if we are watching such shows how much time do we have to be ambitious…
